Independent Nigerians Project
A civic campaign website that turns apathy into participation

Context
The Independent Nigerians Project (INP) is a civic campaign implemented by the Africa Youth Growth Foundation (AYGF), a registered organisation based in Abuja. Running from October 2025 to April 2028 across nine target states, it aims to raise voter participation after the 2023 elections recorded a turnout of 26.7%.
Challenge
The site had to persuade people who have stopped believing their vote matters, without ever telling them who to vote for. It also had to earn trust from partners and the press, and turn interest into members, volunteers and subscribers.
Thinking
Lead with the problem
One number, 26.7%, does more than a paragraph of mission statements. The homepage opens with it.
Non-partisan, visibly
No party colours and no candidates. The agenda gives citizens standards to judge any leader, which is what makes the campaign credible.
Accountability starts at home
A campaign that asks leaders for accountability should show its own plan. Phases, targets and data sources are published openly.
Solution
- A homepage that moves from the turnout problem to the two pillars of the campaign and a clear call to join
- The 10-point agenda, each demand stated in a sentence
- Free membership registration, routed by state and by how each person wants to take part
- A public project timeline with monitoring and evaluation targets
- A blog, events, leadership pages and a newsletter to keep supporters engaged
Experience
Recognise
Visitors see the turnout problem and why it matters to them.
Trust
A clear agenda, named leadership and a public plan show the campaign is serious and non-partisan.
Join
Membership is free and takes a minute, with a route to local teams.
Screens

A 10-point agenda any citizen can use to judge a candidate, whatever their party.
The case for showing up, made in one screen.
Each demand in a sentence, readable on any phone.
Joining takes five fields and costs nothing.

Members pick their state and how they want to take part, so organisers can route them to local teams.
The plan in public: five phases, with the targets the campaign will be measured against.
